The book of Proverbs is one of the primary texts of biblical wisdom literature, teaching God’s people how to live wisely in everyday life. Proverbs repeatedly reminds us that true wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord—not merely knowledge, but the practical application of God’s truth in daily living.
In Proverbs 6:6-11, Solomon directs the “sluggard” to observe one of the smallest creatures in creation: the ant. Though small and seemingly insignificant, the ant embodies wisdom through its diligence, foresight and discipline. Solomon’s invitation is not merely to work harder, but to learn how to live wisely.
As we reach the midpoint of the year, this passage invites us to reflect on how we are stewarding our time, responsibilities and opportunities. The wisdom of the ant teaches us how to live intentionally before God.
