In the Old Testament, Israel was often symbolised as God’s vine (Ps 80:6, Hos 10:1, Jer 2:21, Ez 15:6-7). However instead of producing good fruit, Israel produced bad fruit. Despite this failure, God did not abandon His people. Instead, Jesus came as the ‘true’ vine, fulfilling what Israel could not. John 15:1 states “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser”.
